VO2
VO2 max testing measures how efficiently your body uses oxygen during exercise, and is widely regarded as the gold standard for assessing cardiovascular fitness. In simple terms, the higher your score, the better your body is at delivering oxygen to your muscles to sustain effort over time. This is important not just for athletes looking to improve endurance performance, but for everyday health too, as a higher VO2 max is strongly linked to a reduced risk of disease and a longer, healthier life. The test will involve exercising on a treadmill at progressively increasing intensities while we monitor your breathing and heart rate, giving us a precise picture of your aerobic fitness. Repeated testing over time will allow us to monitor trends in performance.
Sprint testing
Sprint testing measures your raw speed and acceleration. While this is valuable for athletes in sports where speed is critical, it also gives us useful insight into your neuromuscular fitness, which is how well your brain and muscles communicate to produce rapid, powerful movement. This kind of fitness tends to decline with age, so tracking it can be a great indicator of broader physical health and athleticism. The test itself is straightforward: you'll perform short, flat-out sprints over a set distance, and we use electronic timing gates to capture your speed and acceleration with precision. Power testing
Power testing assesses your explosive strength, which is essentially your ability to generate force in a very short space of time. We measure this through jump tests, looking at how high you can jump vertically and how far you can leap horizontally, both of which give us a reliable snapshot of your lower-body power. Explosive power is a key component of athletic performance in almost every sport, but it's also an important health marker. Research shows that lower-body power is closely associated with independence, injury resilience, and healthy ageing. The tests are simple and quick: you'll perform a series of jumps, and we'll measure the height and distance achieved. Repeated testing over time will allow us to monitor trends in performance.
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories your body burns simply to keep you alive, fuelling your heart, lungs, brain, and other essential functions while you're completely at rest. This figure makes up the largest portion of your total daily calorie expenditure, which makes it incredibly useful information if you're trying to manage your weight, fuel your training, or simply better understand your body. The test is straightforward: you'll rest quietly while we measure the gases you breathe in and out, which tells us precisely how much energy your body is using at complete rest.
